Background

The Indians of these islands were Amerindians came from South America.Among the Europian settlers, The Spanish, British, French had influenced the culture of Trinidad and Tobago excessively. All three countries claimed the islands at various times during the country's colonial history. After Columbus "discovered" Trinidad in 1498 the time of starting the Spanish rule in the Island and it lasted for nearly 300 years. In 1797, Trinidad changed hand and was under British control. In 1802, Trinidad and Tobago officially identifies as British colonies under the Treaty of Amiens.

Trinidad and Tobago were politically unified in 1888 when they became a British Crown Colony. In 1958, the Federation of the West Indies was formed. Trinidad and Tobago became an independent member of the Commonwealth of Nations in 1962 and in 1967, they joined the Organization of American States. On August 1, 1976, the twin islands became the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

The country is one of the most prosperous in the Caribbean handling largely to petroleum and natural gas production and processing. Tourism, mostly in Tobago, is targeted for expansion and is growing,as well.
